About Us

About Our Foundation

SafeSpace Solutions of West Michigan, now proudly a licensed Home Care Agency, offers fully furnished, Airbnb-style homes designed to enhance the living experience of our aging population, as well as serving seniors, veterans, mental health clients, pregnant single mothers, and foster care age-outs. With rooms available on monthly leases, each new tenant is warmly welcomed with a care package that includes towels, toiletries, and bed linens, ensuring they feel at home from the moment they arrive.

Our commitment extends beyond offering a living space; we aim to provide a true “home” environment, especially for those with limited family or social interactions. Each residence is a community in its own right, where tenants not only share household tasks but actively participate in daily activities, creating a close-knit “family” atmosphere. Homes are managed by an onsite, live-in manager who fosters a supportive and nurturing environment for everyone.

Furthering our dedication to comprehensive care, we provide daily meals, transportation to medical appointments, and a variety of recreational activities to enrich the lives of our residents. Our in-home care services cover daily living needs, including room cleaning, personal hygiene, laundry, and chores, ensuring a comfortable and dignified living experience. Additionally, monthly barber or hairstylist visits are arranged, and a calendar of weekly and monthly activities is meticulously planned to promote community engagement and a sense of belonging.

At SafeSpace Solutions of West Michigan, we strive to create a safe, supportive space where every individual, particularly our elders, feels valued and part of a family.

Founder

Ursula S Harris

Ursula S. Harris is the Founder of Safespace Solutions of West Michigan, driven by a deep commitment to supporting the community’s most vulnerable members. Her lifelong purpose is to provide secure and supportive housing for individuals in need, drawing from her own challenging experiences.

Ms. Harris’s journey began in the foster care system, where she faced significant adversity before being adopted at age eight. Her formative years included time in boarding schools and upon graduating at eighteen, she was faced with no family to return to.

Throughout her journey, Ms. Harris overcame every obstacle from teen pregnancy, homelessness, and depression, to name a few. She persevered through each obstacle and was eventually able to secure a successful career as an IT Business Systems Analyst that spanned over twenty-five years as well as her over 20 years as an investor in the real estate market.

She eventually left the corporate world to raise her grandchildren while her Adult daughter struggled with mental health issues. Witnessing her daughter’s difficulties, Ms. Harris felt compelled to act, using her real estate investment experience to provide housing for her daughter and others facing similar struggles. Over the past several years, she has seen the impact that her housing program is having on the community, one home at a time, and now she needs your help to continue this mission, so we can all do our part to help aide our homeless community members!

Our Mission

"Our mission is to provide safe, fully furnished, affordable housing solutions, that include all utilities & internet, for those in need- offering more than just a place to stay, but rather, a place "to live". We are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our tenants by delivering essential services, such as daily meals, transportation, and recreational activities."

Problem & Solution

Problem

Many individuals, including seniors, veterans, mental health clients, face significant challenges in securing stable, affordable housing. These vulnerable groups often struggle with limited family or friend interactions, lack of access to essential services, and the absence of a supportive community. Traditional housing options may not provide the home-like environment or the care and support they need, leading to isolation, instability, and a diminished quality of life.

Solution

Safespace Solutions of West Michigan will address this pressing need by offering pre furnished homes, with rooms available for lease on a month-to- month basis. We will ensure a nurturing environment by providing daily meals, transportation to medical appointments, and recreational activities. We work closely with the local agencies, social workers, and housing coordinators, to place the right clients, in the right home based on their needs. We know that many of the agencies and shelters are at capacity or have waiting lists for subsidized housing, and we want to embrace the opportunity to bridge the gap between "Hopeless" and "Hopeful”.

Senior Living Market Size 2024-2028

The senior living market is forecasted to increase by 127.37 billion, at a CAGR of 5.9% between 2023 and 2028. The market growth relies on several factors, including the aging baby boomer population, evolving lifestyles, and preferences among elders, and increasing life expectancy. These demographic shifts drive demand for products and services catering to elderly needs and preferences, such as healthcare, leisure, and retirement planning. As the aging population expands and longevity increases, industries must adapt to meet changing demands and expectations, presenting opportunities for innovation and growth in sectors tailored to the needs of older adults.

The demographic outlook is promising and exhibits a high market potential that provides significant and recurring investment opportunities for market players. The US will significantly require more retirement housing, along with other retirement care services, during a prolonged period to meet the rising demand in our country, which is primarily attributed to the number of Baby Boomers going into retirement. Additionally, Safe Space Solutions offers senior and veteran living solutions like personalized senior care and a phased-in approach to the assisted living care methodology.

• In 2024 and beyond, senior living communities are expected to shift their emphasis from caregiving to wellness, a trend that is expected to continue. Wellness-focused communities offer residents access to fitness facilities, nutrition programs, mental health services, and various social activities. This holistic approach to senior living is expected to enhance senior adults’ overall quality of life.

• The U.S. population is projected to age faster than any other age group in the country over the next decade as baby boomers age beyond retirement. In the U.S., over 10,000 people reach the age of 65 every day.

• In particular, the population of people over 80 in the United States is projected to increase by almost 50% over the next ten years, rising from 13.9 million to 20.8 million. This highlights the huge demand for additional senior housing and nursing care. By comparison, the overall population growth in the United States is projected to be a modest 4.7% over the same period.

Our Future Programs

Starting in September of 2024, Safespace Solutions of West Michigan has planned a lineup of email and Facebook fundraising events aimed at gathering support and resources for their mission. The entirety of the proceeds from these events will be channeled towards bolstering the programs and services offered by Safe Space Solutions. The organization is optimistic that these fundraising emails will not only generate essential funds but will also cultivate a deeper sense of community engagement and solidarity in support of their crucial mission.

We are hoping to also have a cannibis – connect, social equity marketing event, in the hopes of securing some of those local funds as well.

We are always looking for many more ways to fundraise for this amazing cause towards lessening the tension of homelessness in our community – won’t you join us?
